It’s here! Kennedy Library has launched our new and improved website for the Cal Poly community. The planning and implementation of the new website has been informed by our visitors at every step of the way. That’s why you’ll find a cleaner website that is totally responsive, has real-time features and is focused on the student experience.
The first thing you’ll notice is the fresh new look and feel. It’s not just more visually appealing though, it’s also more functional. There’s totally new navigation that is simpler to use and more consistent throughout the site. For example, there are now 39 links in the main navigation, down from 180 links on the previous site.
Also new: one do-it-all search box! One search box means you can search everything at once, and find the results you need on one page rather than different tabs.
Kennedy Library’s website is responsive, and adapts to all types of displays and browsers. Try the new touch-friendly mobile navigation menu! These changes are especially important since students, who frequently view the web using their smart phones, will have an improved experience.
The library’s responsive site was built in HTML5/CSS3 and WordPress, which is a great improvement for the backend too, eliminating the need for thousands of hand-coded pages.
The new website features a real-time display of open hours, late night study spaces and special collections and archives on every page. It’s even color-coded! The speech bubble changes color depending on whether the library is open or closed.
Look, too, for improved chat visibility. When chat is closed, the chat link turns into an e-mail link.
Student centered layout and language
Kennedy Library’s website has a student-centric layout and more intuitive language, which will enable everyone to access information quicker. We want to get to the point so that you can get what you need, faster.
We’re still busy rewriting the content, so you may come across some of the old pages while navigating through the site. We expect the pages to be fully integrated later this year.
We hope you enjoy the improved experience! Let us know what you think by clicking on the feedback tab on lib.calpoly.edu.
