Cal Poly welcomes Open Education Library Fellow, Dana Ospina

Dana Ospina joined the Robert E. Kennedy Library this November as Cal Poly’s new Open Education Library Fellow.

Innovation in libraries

This two-year position will shape the direction and implementation of Kennedy Library’s pilot open educational resources program. This position is an innovative one for libraries, and one that aligns with Kennedy Library’s commitment to the open knowledge and open access movements.

“The job description for the Open Education Library Fellow is one of the most innovative I have encountered,” Dana said. “The opportunity to serve in the position is incredibly exciting. Libraries and librarians are uniquely qualified to steward, evaluate and promote open educational resources and programs, a fact that is only just beginning to be recognized by universities and the field of open education.”

Sarah Faye Cohen, our associate university librarian said, “The opportunities for open education in libraries are relatively unexplored. We needed someone who was curious, open minded and experienced in working with open projects, like the Internet Archive. We found this person in Dana.”

Open access to open knowledge

Dana will work closely with campus partners, the CSU and at the national level to develop programs, processes, and services that facilitate the compilation and dissemination of open educational resources and open content.

“I look forward to fruitful collaborations with colleagues, faculty members, students, and the administration as the Kennedy Library seeks to implement creative, sustainable solutions to such issues as affordability and access,” said Dana.
