Interlibrary Loan Fulfillment Specialist

Under general supervision of the Executive Director of Collections Strategy and Discovery and in collaboration with colleagues in Interlibrary Loan and Access Services, this position contributes to the fulfillment of the resource sharing services functions of this unit, as well as contributing to the overall services and programs of CSAS and the Library. Primary activities of this position include handling borrowing and lending requests for library materials from patrons; retrieving and processing requests through various databases, joint resource sharing systems and cooperative efforts with other libraries; verifying eligibility of requests; verifying bibliographic information and conducting bibliographic searches related to requests; troubleshooting problem requests; monitoring the circulation desk and daily circulation desk operations; answering the circulation desk phone; checking library materials in and out using library systems; resolving patron problems related to circulation functions; interacting with library patrons to maintain a positive and safe environment, and noting problem areas and communicating them to supervisors.

Required qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to clearly explain integrated library system (ILS) policies and procedures.
  • Ability to create article pdf’s and scan articles from journals, documents and books, both print and microform.
  • Working knowledge of the use of automated academic library and interlibrary loan programs and systems to perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to access various on-line resources and databases used within the library and to use their standard and advanced features to perform technical work and/or assist patrons.
  • Working knowledge of library collection organization and classification scheme and ability to interpret bibliographic records.
