University Archives Gifts

Collections are accepted that document the history, growth, and development of Cal Poly. Special emphasis is placed on collections relating to campus life, the built environment, visual materials, and campus lore and traditions.

Nearly all of our holdings are acquired through gift deed. The University Archives Department welcomes referrals by Cal Poly faculty and staff as well as the public regarding potential collections. All decisions relating to acceptance of collections and the terms of the gift remain with the head of University Archives, and may also be informed by resource allocation considerations. All collections must have signed deeds of gift or campus acknowledgment of transfer executed stipulating conditions relating to rights to the material, physical ownership, future care and other legal responsibilities.

It should be noted that the University Archives contains monographs published by faculty. Other faculty scholarly and creative work, including journal articles, conference proceedings, and presentations, are located in the university’s institutional repository, DigitalCommons@CalPoly.
