Topographic Maps
USGS 7.5 Minute Quadrants (scale 1:24,000; 40-foot contours)
Available in print for California (call no. Map G4360 S24U5), Oregon (call no. Map G4290 S24U5), and Washington (call no. Map G4280 S24U5). Use the index map (on top of cabinet in center of room) to find the name of your quadrant. Maps are filed alphabetically by the name of the quadrant.
Digital!- Start at the USGS Store
- Click "Map Locator and Downloader."
- Click "Map Locator and Downloader" again on next the screen.
- Search for or zoom in to your site.
- Place a red marker at your site by clicking on the spot.
- Click on the red marker that shows up. A box will come up telling you what maps are available for download.
- Download the maps! They're free.
Need Smaller Contour Intervals?
- If you're comfortable using GIS software, there are datasets with 2-meter contours available from the City of San Luis Obispo, found on the SLO Data Finder
- When examining a campus site, Cal Poly facilities has a good set of topo maps
