Kennedy Library welcomes David Beales: Librarian for College of Engineering

David Beales joined the Robert E. Kennedy Library as the College Librarian for the College of Engineering on October 3, 2011. David brings a balanced background in critical areas of engineering and academic librarianship, including instruction with diverse populations and the development of innovative services to support faculty research.

Enhancing research

David will work with College of Engineering faculty to create guides, tutorials and coursework to support students in their studies. In addition, David will lead hands-on instructional workshops and consult with students regarding their research needs. He will also assist in the selection of information resources.

Achievements on the job

David is coming to Cal Poly from the Central Library, Imperial College London, where he was the Faculty Team Leader for Engineering over the last two years and introduced research support sessions in bibliometrics, research impact and academic plagiarism. Previously he served at King’s College London as Senior Information Specialist for Teaching and Learning, and Information Specialist, Physical Sciences and Engineering, for three years.

David’s university degrees include a BEng in civil engineering from the University of Brighton and an MA in Information Services Management from the University of North London.
