Kennedy Library Associate Dean Anna Gold has been named to the new position of University Librarian, effective July 15, 2011, reporting to Michael D. Miller in his recently announced new role as CIO and head of a new campus division, Information Services.

Joined Kennedy Library in 2008

Gold joined Cal Poly Kennedy Library as the Associate Dean for Public Services in 2008, drawn by its commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, and its polytechnic approach to learning and research. “There is no more exciting work to be done in academic librarianship today than in a place like Cal Poly,” Gold said. “I’m excited about what the reorganization under Mike Miller’s leadership will mean for Cal Poly and the Library.”

Spearheaded many new programs

At Cal Poly, Gold has led the Library’s College Librarian program, new public engagement programs such as Science Café and Conversations with Cal Poly Authors, and established the Student Library Advisory Council (SLAC). She has also expanded library assessment programs; and led improved interlibrary article delivery by organizing a statewide network of public and private universities.

Rich experience

Before joining Cal Poly in 2008, Gold served at MIT as Head Librarian of the Engineering and Science Libraries; and at UC San Diego as Head of the Science and Engineering Library. She was responsible for public website development at the National Science Foundation in 1996-1999; and began her career at the Library of Congress. Gold holds an M.S. from Virginia Tech in science and technology studies as well as an M.L.S. from Catholic University of America.
