The main Library will be extending its weekend hours during spring quarter, 2011, staying open until 6 pm both Friday and Saturday nights.
The Library is responding to results of a survey conducted last fall by the Student Library Advisory Council (SLAC). Over 60% of students who responded to the survey said that keeping the main Library open later than 5 pm on weekends was “very important” or “important.”
Most hours of CSU libraries
The Kennedy Library currently has the most open hours of any library in the CSU system, in addition to an expanded 24-hour study area. The Library is also open until midnight every quarter on the Friday and Saturday before finals.
Will the extended hours continue next year?
After gathering data during spring quarter the Library will decide whether to continue these hours during the 2011-2012 academic year.
Why isn’t the Library staying open even later?
The one-hour extension to 6 pm is being managed with existing staff. Additional staff would be needed to stay open later. We are continuing to gather data to determine whether the demand for later hours would justify making the case for additional staff.
Where can I learn more about the SLAC survey results?
SLAC is currently working on a summary of the survey results, which will be available via the Library’s web site in spring quarter.
