Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and whether you’re into all the mushy stuff or refuse to buy into the commercials, love is on everyone’s mind, and the Take5, our stress-relieving outreach program here at the Kennedy Library has got you covered with our Valentines Crafting Station! We will have supplies for all your crafting needs all day in Hub 24 from Feb. 12 to 14!
Let’s face it, you either love or hate Valentine’s Day. “Singles Awareness Day!” people spout. “I have a hot date with an extra-large pizza, a pint of Cherry Garcia and the third season of Parks and Rec!” But let this year be different! Get off your couch, and with the Kennedy Library’s help, share your love instead of wallowing in a disillusioned daze of commercials and the mush of those in-your-face couples who share EVERYTHING they do on Instagram.
Everybody’s thinking about love one way or another, so there’s no better time of the year to really show your love and appreciation for that special someone — whether it’s your girlfriend or your girl friend, that really cute girl that sits next to you in class or your coworker that puts a smile on your face, and whether its your best bro or your mom. Yes, your mom! She loves you, and you should call her more often.
If we at the Kennedy Library have learned anything from watching Peanuts holiday specials, it’s that there’s nothing more meaningful to that special someone than a genuine, heartfelt, personal gesture. Get up and extend that gesture to the people you love.
There’s no better heartfelt gesture than a crafted message created with your own two hands. Take a stand against what corporations will sell you — no fancy Hallmark cards, no fancy heart-shaped chocolates, and none of that weird gimmicky jewelry you see on those Kay commercials. Take5 is here to help you give your special someone a gift that says you were thinking of them when you made it.
Need help getting started? The Take5 will also be hosting a Valentine’s Crafting Workshop! On Feb. 12, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., drop into the atrium for sessions in creating handmade cards, paper crafts, and wreaths for that special someone.
Go out there and show your love! Happy crafting!
