Julians not open on Saturday- February 26th, 2010

You: Julian’s should be open on Saturday.

Answer: We’d love to have the wonderful staff at Julian’s here all the time, but they have to choose hours that will have plenty of traffic and so far Saturday hasn’t had enough to justify opening. But understandably, you get hungry or need a cup of coffee to stay awake, even on Saturdays. Check out the other Saturday coffee and food options on campus, including Poly Canyon Village and at Campus Market,  and we’ll pass your feedback along to Julian’s.  Thanks!

More food varieties February 26th, 2010

You: The library needs more ‘real’ food at lower prices like pizza, cheese, pitas etc.

Answer: Thanks for the suggestions – we’re pleased that Curbside Grill and other food vendors are bringing greater variety closer to hungry students at Kennedy Library this year.  And we’ll share your feedback with Julian’s, which offers a variety of salads, and sandwiches and just about any kind of cookie you can think of!

More ‘food’ items at Julian’s January 30th, 2010

You: It is so nice to have Julian’s in the library but I really wished they had more food and not just pastries and sweet things.

Answer: We are glad you like Julian’s, we do too! We have received lots of compliments on them.  While Julian’s does keep pastries and sweets on hand all the time, they also do have a variety of lunch items some to include salads, wraps and sandwiches to accommodate appetites of all kinds. Typically they don’t put these items out until closer to the lunch hour but your request will be forwarded on to them.  In the meantime if you have any specific requests on what you’d like to see at Julian’s please let us know!  Thank you for your feedback.

More seating for one’s and two’s January 8th, 2010

You: I wished there were more sitting areas designed for one or two people.

Answer: We appreciate your feedback, while we’ve worked hard to accommodate students with various seating requests and needs they are always changing.  We do have quite a few couches and sitting areas meant for groups but you will find near Julian’s there are a few areas where only one or two people can sit, also along the atrium window on the second floor.   We recently replaced several ‘older’ seating areas and updated them with new, vibrant colored chairs. You will find some of these just outside the elevators.  There, you will find that we’ve added some new red chairs that are quite comfortable and include a swinging table arm if necessary.

(Another spot to check out if you’re looking for a quiet space is along the window on the 4th and 5th floors!)

Poor wireless signal December 30th, 2009

You: I don’t like that there is such a poor wireless signal on the 5th floor over by the RA-RB aisle, the signal is only 8% and includes frequent signal drops, the wireless connection on the 5th floor needs to be improved.

Answer: Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback.  There are times when we don’t know problems exist until someone like you lets us know.  After hearing your concern, we did verify that the connectivity is marginal at best in the area you pointed out.  We will bring this matter to the attention of Information Technology Services immediately.

Slow computers December 30th, 2009

You:  After an hour and a half of trying to simply make a .pdf of a file, I had to give up and use a different lab because even though it had the software, it was too slow to handle it, the new lab needs to be faster!

Answer: We agree, some computers in the library are too slow. We have identified about 70 computers we’d like to replace when our budget allows it.  Part of the slowness is also due to the number of software applications we install on our public computers– especially our laptops.  We would like to do a better job of identifying unnecessary software applications, so that we can remove them for better over-all performance.  This is a balancing act as we also realize our computers are the only open-access resources available to ALL departments on campus.  We don’t want to eliminate applications you need for your department-specific classes.

We appreciate the time you took to give us feedback. Improving computer performance is a priority for us.
