As reported by NEA Higher Education Advocate (Vol 26, No.2, December 2008), beginning Spring Semester 2009, the University of Texas at Austin – through a partnership with publisher John Wiley and Sons - is offering etextbooks to approximately 1,000 students in courses ranging from biochemistry to accounting, with some courses dropping paper for electronic entirely. By implementing e-books, the cost is estimated between $25-$45 per book.
According to the University Co-op Bookstore website, while most ebooks will remain usable over time, some limit the number of pages you can print per week while others “expire” after 12 months.
