According to a recent Pew Internet & American Life report, “the percentage of internet users who use search engines on a typical day has been steadily rising from about one-third of all users in 2002, to a new high of just under one half (49%).” Email is the only activity that beats out search engine use – with 60% of internet users reportedly using email daily.

Why the increase in search engine use? The report cites better search engine performance, an increased need to filter through information, and faster home internet connectivity (higher likelihood of users turning to the internet with questions).
