HP, Intel and Yahoo! today announced a partnership to advance academic research in cloud computing. Cloud computing, a flavor of grid computing, pools together computing power across the internet to provide online, shared applications and service models. Google has been doing this for a while with the likes of GoogleDocs and other services.

Seizing the opportunity, this newly announced partnership for the “Cloud Computing Test Bed” will use cloud computing as the opportunity to move towards the “Everything as a Service” business model in which “devices and services will interact seamlessly through the cloud, and businesses and individuals will use services that anticipate their needs based on location, preferences, calendar and communities.”
