Created by former Google software engineers, Cuil (pronounced “cool”) is a new search engine that purports to index more pages and return more refined results than Google. I gave the search engine a test run – it returns results in a news-magazine format – and I have to say that the faceted search features (search only images, PDFs, etc) aren’t as rich as Google.

Refreshingly, the service makes the privacy policy very clear – they don’t collect your personal or search information…but it remains to be seen if a new search engine (superior indexing notwithstanding) can beat the formidable Google giant.
