A very helpful article appeared in the February issue of Architect magazine, providing a brief overview of copyright law as it applies to architects and firms. This is something all designers should know at least a bit about, both in terms of protecting your own designs, but also in terms of understanding how other people’s work is legally protected.
For those interested in even more detail, this longer article in Architectural Record from 2004 describes the process of registering your work with the U.S. Copyright Office so that you would be able to take legal action should it ever become necessary (Cal Poly authentication required for off-campus readers).
