I wanted to share my favorite screen capture tool, Jing. I use this software every single day to do screen captures and screencasts. The videos are limited to five minutes, but that’s a positive. It forces you to organize a longer topic into small consumable pieces, similar to the way the Lynda.com videos are set up. It’s free (as in beer) and available for Windows and Mac OS X. Download a PDF file with instructions for using Jing.

I find it useful to assign a hotkey to Jing for cases when I don’t want to lose the focus of the element I’m trying to capture.

I’m with you, Carl. I finally got around to installing this last week. Even though I’ve only used it for screenshots so far, it takes 1/3 the time and my shot is annotated to boot!
