Seeing as the name for this blog was my suggestion I felt I should provide a brief explanation. The word comes from a book I read recently, Plato and a platypus walk into a bar– : understanding philosophy through jokes, and I like to think of it as a classification problem (which can relate to libraries). Let’s try to divide words into two groups, words that refer to themselves (“autologic”) like “short” and “polysyllabic” and words that’s don’t (“heterologic”) like “misspelled” and “monosyllabic”. Do all words fit into one of the two categories? What about “heterologic”? If it’s autologic then it’s heterologic. But if it’s heterologic it’s autologic. I like the word as a name because this blog is meant to be a pointer to interesting resources and therefore is itself an interesting resource.
