Why Now?

A recent change extends International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) from 10 digits to 13 digits as of January 1, 2007. However, the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) will adopt the new 13-digit format as of November 12, 2006, thus necessitating upgrades to our library management system prior to that date.

In an effort to minimize the number of outages affecting our users, the library has rolled these necessary changes into an upgrade of our library management system.

We recognize that any disruption during the quarter is inconvenient. We apologize for any inconvenience but look forward to serving you with improved server performance.

What Will Be Different?

Following this hardware and initial software upgrade, users may notice improved speed and performance. Users will not notice design changes to the library's online catalog interface. These upgrades will also allow the library to redesign PolyCAT to enhance user interface and search features.

These critical updates are made possible by the generous support of the Cal Poly Plan.
