Special closures due to CSU staff furloughs
Goal: minimize the impact
In August 2009, Library staff and faculty at Cal Poly have begun taking 24 mandatory furlough days. The Library is committed to maintaining its current library hours, and has developed a plan to minimize the impact on students and faculty of this major loss of Library staff time.
Maintaining long hours, doubling 24/7 capacity
Kennedy Library's main library hours are currently the longest hours of any library in the CSU system. We will maintain these hours this year: 7 am to 2 am, with extended evening hours during pre-finals periods. In addition, the Library is doubling the capacity of its popular 24-hour space this fall, as well as adding late night access to computers, and a quiet 24-hour study room.
In order to maintain these hours, the Library has developed a plan to close the Library on nine shared furlough days. All shared furlough days are scheduled around holiday weekends or during quarter breaks, in order to minimize the impact on students or faculty.
