Position Description

The web designer is responsible for the visual design, implementation, assessment, and management of the Robert E. Kennedy Library website. Collaborating with library systems and programming experts, the web designer creates standard and mobile interfaces across platforms to meet user needs in an efficient, inspired and integrated way. The incumbent must have strong project management and organizational skills and the ability to coordinate with a team to determine project objectives, technical requirements, content needs and milestones. The successful candidate will lead a major web redesign reflecting new technology and campus branding. The web designer also provides library-wide graphic design leadership, directing a talented team of pre-professional student artists to provide consistent and exciting graphic design for both web- and print-based library communications.

With annual visitors exceeding 1.2 million, the Robert E. Kennedy Library is a campus hub for information resources, integrating traditional library resources with technology to support the University's evolving academic programs. We take pride in leading the way with innovative services, technologies, and collaborative spaces. The Library hosts and manages university-wide computer labs and open access computers, provides free checkout services for laptops and a wide range of AV devices, serves as the home for the Digital Commons (Cal Poly's institutional repository), and provides technology-enabled, collaborative, student-friendly spaces like the Learning Commons and café on the second floor. Planning is underway for a major expansion of the Academic Center and Library. The Library and Information Technology Services are now part of a newly established Information Services Directorate.
